Relaxation therapyThe following relaxation techniques can be used on their own, with the use of trance and with solution focused methods;Applied relaxationThis is based on the protocol developed in Sweden by psychologist, Lars-Goran Ost in the 1980s. The method teaches clients a controlled method of relaxation and coping mechanisms. This can be linked with breathing exercises, trance, mindfulness and visualisation. Applied relaxation has been validated in many clinical research articles and the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE), has described applied relaxation as a beneficial technique to reduce generalised anxiety disorders. The evidence is staggering about the benefits of this form of practice, validated by psychiatrists, psychologists and therapists. Natasha will offer sessions in applied relaxation psychotherapy. This would be open to a wide range of clients. It would be useful for a client who would alternatively seek hypnotherapy or a different client group altogether. Natasha feels there is a large market for applied relaxation psychotherapy working with adults with health problems, disabilities, mental health, older adults and carers. Anecdotally, there is a large segment of older adults who feel anxious and often become over-reliant on family members. They fear being left alone or doing tasks for themselves. A technique such as applied relaxation has been proven to reduce stress levels and act as a strategy for individuals to reduce anxiety. Treatments: Anxiety, panic attacks, phobia, headache, tinnitus, chronic pain and more. Guided imageryIf a client wants to use trance for relaxation purposes, then guided imagery has proved successful at reducing stress and increasing well-being. This could be offered stand alone, or as a part of hypnotherapy/psychotherapy and relaxation. Treatments: Depression and anxiety. Goal direct visualisation/meditationNatasha uses visualisation and meditation practice to coach clients to achieve their goals and long-lasting success. This would ordinarily be a part of relaxation or hypnotherapy sessions. Treatments: Performance stress, addiction, smoking cessation, phobia, panic attacks and more. MindfulnessThe aim is to allow your mind to become quiet and overcome the worries, thoughts and reflections that can cause constant preoccupation. Have you ever looked up in the sky and appreciated the beauty of nature? Mindfulness practice can help you to take in all that is good around you and focus on the here and now. It’s a great way to beat stress and develop instant calm. Treatments: Chronic pain, anxiety, fibromyalgia, addiction, depression, stress and more. |
